This is a drawing I worked on a few weeks ago. It was one of two dog portraits for the same client from county Wicklow. Polly has sadly passed away a short time ago and her portrait is being given to her owner as a birthday present. The drawing was 20 x 25 cm in size and drawn with graphite pencils on paper. I worked from one reference photo which worked very well, so no adjustments were needed. I am including a scan of the drawing below together with the reference photo and an image of the finished drawing in a mount.
I completed another portrait for the same client, of her three dogs, wheaten terriers. I will be posting an image of the finished drawing soon, so please check back for updates 🙂
Today I have finished working on Monty’s and Jessie’s pet portrait. It was a slow process, but I am happy with the result and I hope the client will like it too. Below, I have included a scan of the entire drawing together with a detailed view of Monty’s and Jessie’s face.
It was a nice pet portrait to work on. I think the pose of both dogs is lovely, the way they are so happy in each other’s company.
This is a pet portrait I worked on at the end of January. It is of an adorable yorkshire terrier. The size is 8″ x 10″ (20 x 25cm) and it is in graphite pencil on paper. He was really a joy to work on, he has a lovely gentle expression on his face. It was a commission for a client in Ireland.
This is a new pet portrait commission. I started working on this drawing yesterday and having completed the outline I started detailing the portrait today. The portrait is of a beautiful black labrador Hamish and an equally lovely cat Oscar, for a client in county Kildare. It is a Christmas present, so has to be finished in time for posting.
I have two original photographs and have put both Hamish and Oscar onto one 12″ x 10″ (30 x 25cm) size paper. They look really well together and I think the overall portrait will be quite effective.
As always I am using a HB pencil to start with and adding shadows in with a 2B and a 4B. I still have a lot to do on the details on Hamish and I will hopefully start working on Oscar tomorrow. When finished the first detail, I will look over the portrait and darken and correct areas that need more work.
I will post more in progress photographs tomorrow.
This is the final scan of the latest dog drawing in pencil. It is of the smallest size I offer, 8″ x 12″ (A4). I used graphite pencil HB, 2B and 4B.
