This is a portrait I completed for FBD. It is of Andrew Langford and it will be placed in the office with other similar portraits of previous managers. The drawing is 30 x 30 cm in size and drawn with graphite pencils on paper. I will be mounting and posting it tomorrow and I will take some photos of how it looks mounted.
I took some photos of the finished mounted portrait:
I have just finished working on another portrait. It is a family portrait of a cocker spaniel called Charlie and her owners. Charlie has sadly passed away and her owners wanted a portrait of her and themselves as a keepsake. To put Charlie into focus, we have decided to draw her portrait with tinted pencils and the rest of the portrait in graphite. I think it worked out quite well. Charlie’s reference photo was pretty good so I could really go to town with all the detail. It was such a lovely portrait to work on. The drawing is 25 x 30cm (10 x 12 inches) in size and I will be posting it in a lovely neutral mount. Below, I am posting a scan of the drawing together with some progress pictures for those who are interested in how I got there. For the graphite pencil portrait, I used Staedtler Mars Lumograph pencils (so hard to get in Ireland), and for the tinted portrait of Charlie, I used Faber Castell Polychromas which are just lovely to work with. I used burnt umber, yellow ochre, walnut brown, burnt sienna and venetian red.
I am now working on a brand new portrait. It is a pencil portrait 10 x 12 inches (25 x 30cm) in size. It is of the client’s father who sadly passed away. It is going to be a special keepsake for the client. I have completed the sketch over the last couple of days and I am now working on the shading. The reference photo is very good and I am only making one change to the clothes. The client asked to have a tie and shirt buttoned up to the top as her father was a very dapper man. Below is a photo I took this morning. I will have the finished scan ready by the end of the week.
