This is a portrait I worked on back in August. I am still playing catch-up with my blog 🙂 The painting is 30 x 40 cm in size painted with acrylics on stretched canvas. It was commissioned by a return client. The painting was a gift to the clients’ friends who she was visiting in France. I worked from four reference photographs that I am including below. The client was very pleased with the finished painting. It was a lovely painting to work on, the dogs being so different. We opted for a montage type composition with a simple shaded background.
I finished Butter’s portrait today. I used graphite pencil for this, starting with a HB and finishing off with a 4B for dark areas and shadows. The background was left a little lighter to help the main subject – Butter – pop off the page. I added a horizon line which wasn’t in the reference photograph, to deepen the perspective and create a greater depth to the overall drawing. I think that worked quite well. I will add this portrait to the main gallery page soon with a detailed zoomed-in image.
This is a new commission from a client in Ireland. It is a pencil drawing of a very cute pug called Butter. The client tells me he is a very happy little dog and walks around proudly and determined. I’m trying to show that in his portrait. The original photograph is quite dark so I am trying to lighten it all a little bit to show the folds of the skin and shiny fur. I have other reference photographs which helps a lot. I will be darkening all of it a little at a later stage when the background is finished.
The portrait is 8″ x 12″ in size. Below are two progress images and I will be finishing on this portrait in a couple of days so check back soon for updates.
