Landscapes in Acrylic on Canvas
This landscape painting was commissioned as a birthday gift for the client's friend. The photograph is of a place that is very special to her and she wanted to give her something unique as a birthday present. I worked from one photograph on a 30 x 40 cm stretched canvas. I took great care to paint the reflections of the sunset in the water and the wetness of the sand. It worked out well and the client was very pleased with the final result of the painting and I am very happy to say that her friend was delighted with her present. Below is a scan of the finished painting. I scan all artwork in house and clients have an opportunity to buy art prints or greeting cards of their commissions, even at a later time as I keep them safely stored in the studio.
Reference Photograph
Only one photographs was used for this painting. It was quite dark and the client wanted to keep it that way so the final painting had a lot of atmosphere from the light and dark contrasts.
Beach Landscape Painting Progress
Below are some photographs of the painting in two stages of completion. The initial sketch was created in one colour to draw in the individual shapes. In the next stages, I started adding layers of colour in thin acrylic washes until I was fully satisfied with the painting.
The painting was finished off by painting the sides of the canvas a neutral colour to harmonize with the overall landscape. Below, I am including some pictures of the finished canvas.
