Family Portrait
People Portraits in Graphite Pencil
This family portrait was commissioned in 2013 as a brithday present for the father in the picture. I worked from one photograph with graphite pencils on Fabriano paper. The portrait was small in size 20 x 30cm, approximately A4. The pencils I used were Staedtler and Daler Rowney graphite ranging from 2H to 8B in hardness / softness.
Family Portrait Scan
The final scan below is of the finished drawing. I am also including some photographs of the finished portrait in a mount which you can see by scrolling down to the bottom of this page. I use a neutral coloured mount for all drawings to match any frame. The photographs show some details of the beatifully textured surface of the Fabriano paper I use.
Photographs of the Finished Portrait
When the portrait was finished, I sprayed it with a fixative and mounted it in a conservation grade mount. The mount adds approximately 2 inches to all sides of the drawing. The drawing is then ready to be wrapped in a plastic cover, some sheets of foamboard / cardboard and lots of layers of bubble wrap for posting. All artwork is posted in a plastic envelope with registered post.
