Humboldt Penguins Wildlife Painting

I often work on wildlife paintings between commissions, and these are then available for sale. There will be more coming to the website soon, so log back on to see my progress. This wildlife painting was inspired by my visit to the Dublin ZOO. It features two humboldt penguins and I worked from several photographs I took on site. It was great to "meet" the penguins and observe their behaviour. This allowed me "get to know them" and made the painting process easier and more focused. They are such curious creatures and I wanted to capture that in the painting. The original painting has now been sold to an art collector in the US. Penguins Wildlife Painting with Detail

Below is a scan of the final painting with detail on the side. The painting was painted on deep edge stretched canvas, that was primed by myself. I then used thin layers of acrylic paint and worked in a number of stages. The sides of the canvas were painted to match the overall look of the painting, so there was no need for framing.
