I worked on this portrait a week ago. It was commissioned by the Gaelic Players Association as a gift for Donal Og’s retirement. They wanted a montage portrait that would show Donal Og throughout his career both as a player and as a manager. The centre of the portrait is Donal Og holding his hurley. We decided to work the main image in coloured pencil for it to stand out. The rest of the images were drawn in graphite pencil.
I used Polychromos coloured pencils and Faber Castell graphite pencils on Fabriano 5. The drawing was sprayed with a fixative as usual. This is to prevent smudging when scanning and posting. I am including a more detailed image of the scanned centre portrait of Donal Og.
