A nightscape in acrylic

This is a rather unusual commission for me. I worked from a couple of photographs, one taken at night and one in daylight, of an urban park. It was commissioned by a return client, whom I created a painting of a boy for last summer. This painting, as the last one, is 30 x 40 cm in size and painted with acrylics on stretched canvas. The darkness was very intruiging and I wanted to capture this in the painting. The street lights are creating some interesting shadows on the surrounding trees and benches and although it is a largely dark indigo and black painting, I used a lot of warm oranges and browns to offset the cool highlights. It worked out quite well and the client was very pleased with the outcome:
