This is a family portrait drawing I drew a couple of months ago. I used Polychromos coloured pencils to create this drawing. It was commissioned by the daughter in the photo for her Mum’s birthday. She contacted me with some ideas and photographs she had as she wanted an artwork for her Mum. Caitlin, my client, didn’t realise I had created some portraits for her before. These were commisioned by her Mum and were of her with her pets including a horse, some dogs and cats. It was a large montage drawing drawn in graphite and coloured pencils. I also painted her beloved dog Checky. You can find more information on this commission in one of my previous posts here.
Caitlin was deciding between a family photograph and a montage for the portrait. She decided to go with a photo taken at her brother’s birthday.
It is of all the family together sharing a lovely happy moment. The photo works really well, capturing the love and affection they all share. It was such a pleasure to draw them all. I removed the background and foreground to focus on the faces and their embrace. Caitlin opted for a coloured pencil drawing. I used Faber-Castell Polychromos on Fabriano 5 50% cotton paper.
Caitlin was delighted when she collected the drawing:
Hi Ivana! It’s beautiful, you’ve captured such a special moment so accurately. Thank you so much for getting it ready in time.

I use neutral coloured mounts to insert all my finished drawings into. These keep the drawings safe when posting or during transport. I use a clear plastic sleeve to put the mounted drawings into. Mounted drawings can be put into a premade frame or custom framed by a framers.
