Charlie the Terrier

Terrier dog portrait drawing in pencil on paper.

This is a portrait of a lovely terrier called Charlie. Charlie sadly passed away recently and his owner wanted a portrait of him as a keepsake. Her sister commissioned two drawings from me and the client wanted something similar created of her own dog:

Hi Ivana,
I am contacting you as you did some wonderful drawings of my sisters dogs Bert and Ernie a couple of years ago and we all love them and now I’d love one of my own!

I worked with graphite pencils on Fabriano paper. We decided to keep the background in the drawing as it was a place where Charlie was happiest to walk. The client provided me with plenty of reference photos and I had a lot to work with. She wanted me to smooth Charlie’s fur on his head a little. The drawing is 25 x 30 cm in size and I mounted it in a neutral coloured mount before posting. The client was delighted with the outcome and emailed me when she collected the drawing from the post office:

Hi Ivana, Just picked up Charlie from the post office. You are so talented, the scan was beautiful but nothing compared to seeing your real work. I couldn’t be happier, very emotional seeing it for the first time because you captured him so well, brought back so many happy memories. Thank you so much. Regards, Laura
