I completed this painting at the end of May. The photograph is of the couple at their engagement party. The clients, the couple’s children, commissioned the painting as a 50th anniversary present. The photo was only available in black and white, and we decided to transform it into a monochrome painting in warm sepia tones. The clients were very pleased with the finished painting and wrote me a lovely email after gifting the painting to their parents:

Hi Ivana, we presented your painting to my parents this weekend and they were blown away. They thought it was an enlarged picture for the first half hour until they realised it was a painting. They love it and will treasure it. Many thanks again for your wonderful piece of work, Mary

sepia toned portrait painting

The painting is 50 x 60 cm in size and painted with acrylics on stretched canvas. I used venetian red, burnt umber, ultramarine and titanium white. I kept things simple keeping some brushstrokes visible. The photo was quite small so details were minimal.

What did you like about the portrait?
