I work from my studio in Kilcock. It is a small room with shelves all around to put my finished and unfinished work onto. I like to give each work a few days to 'rest' before I completely finalise them and email my clients their portrait scans. On this page, you will find more information on how I work together with some progress photos and videos of my process. I discuss the materials I use and how I go about completing each piece of work. Because I work from photographs, I like to share them here too for comparison. You can subscribe to the blog and receive updates 3 to 4 times a month.

This painting was commissioned back in May and was an anniversary present for the client’s girlfriend pictured in the painting. She is feeding a giraffe. I must admit I was not aware this was possible at all! It was a very unusual and exciting project for me. The colour scheme…

This is a tinted and graphite pencil drawing of a proposal in the Wicklow Mountains. I worked on the drawing earlier this year. The portrait is 20 x 20 cm in size and I used mostly graphite and black graphite pencils on paper. The tinted areas of the yellow coat…
I completed this drawing back in January and it was one of my first commissions for 2020. It was such an interesting drawing to work on. I had one reference photo to work from. It was a hard copy photo which I scanned so I could zoom in to see…
Catherine, my client, contacted me back in December to create a painting of her son. The painting was based on an old photograph and the client wanted me to remove the background and replace it with some simple shading. The painting is painted with acrylics on stretched canvas at the…
This is a square pencil drawing of a bride and groom at their wedding day. The portrait was commissioned as a one year anniversary gift from the groom to the bride in the photo. He wanted to mark their first wedding anniversary with a unique gift. It was on December…
