I work from my studio in Kilcock. It is a small room with shelves all around to put my finished and unfinished work onto. I like to give each work a few days to 'rest' before I completely finalise them and email my clients their portrait scans. On this page, you will find more information on how I work together with some progress photos and videos of my process. I discuss the materials I use and how I go about completing each piece of work. Because I work from photographs, I like to share them here too for comparison. You can subscribe to the blog and receive updates 3 to 4 times a month.
I worked on this drawing back in July this year. It is a family portrait drawing of parents and their two children. Their children live in Australia and they don’t have a clear photograph of all four of them together. I worked from many different photos to create one composition.…
This beautiful mare is called Katie’s Pet and sadly passed earlier this year. Her owners were very upset. Caroline, my client, contacted me on behalf of her family, with this lovely photograph and wanted it recreated into a painting. Her father is in the image leading Katie’s Pet. The painting…
I finished on this drawing only a couple of weeks ago. It was such a lovely commission to work on, so unusual having the main characters lying down. The two sisters are so cute in the photo, holding hands and sharing a beautiful moment. It was commissioned by their aunt…
This drawing is based on a vintage wedding album full of interesting images taken on the day of the couple’s wedding. The portrait was a very special gift for the couple’s daughter. Her husband Frank contacted me and visited my studio with a hard copy of the album. We looked…
I painted this painting a couple of months ago. It was commissioned by the lady’s friend as a gift for her 40th birthday. I had one photographic reference for the painting. The client was not sure where the photo was taken but we both agreed it must be somewhere in…
I worked on these two drawings in the beginning of July this year (2022). They were commissioned by a client in Douglas in county Cork. The drawings feature the client’s parents, one of both parents at a wedding and the other of just her father from the same setting. The…
I was commissioned to create a pencil portrait of Niall Moran, the Irish hurler who played for Limerick, by a client a few months ago. The client really enjoyed the coloured pencil drawing I completed of Donal Og a while ago. She wanted to have a drawing of the same…
I worked on this painting a few weeks ago for a return client. He commissioned a painting of him proposing to his wife in Central Park in New York last year. This year he emailed me with a gorgeous photo of his wife and his two young daughters. The setting…
This painting was commissioned as a milestone birthday gift for the man in the image who is turning 70 in a few months’ time. It was commissioned by his wife. I worked from a few photographs using one for his posture and expression and another to remove a tint in…
I completed these two paintings last year 2021 for a returning client. He previously commissioned a painting of a boy and returned with another two commissions last year. He wanted me to paint his wife and daughter’s portraits. These were given to the ladies as gifts to the client’s wife…
