Meet Holly
I received this photograph from a client I recently drew a portrait for. Holly is the beagle sitting beside the portrait. It is lovely to see Holly beside her image in the drawing. I am including some photographs of the mounted drawing.
I work from my studio in Kilcock. It is a small room with shelves all around to put my finished and unfinished work onto. I like to give each work a few days to 'rest' before I completely finalise them and email my clients their portrait scans. On this page, you will find more information on how I work together with some progress photos and videos of my process. I discuss the materials I use and how I go about completing each piece of work. Because I work from photographs, I like to share them here too for comparison. You can subscribe to the blog and receive updates 3 to 4 times a month.

I finished working on this portrait yesterday and I scanned it today. It was a large one and I worked on it on and off for three weeks. The drawings take a while to take shape I find, but when they come together they are worth the hard work. I…

I recently worked on this lovely painting of Sam, a lovely collie dog with a backdrop of the Donegal mountains. The portrait was commissioned as a Christmas present for the client’s partner and Sam’s owner. Sam is no longer with us and I wanted to capture his lovely nature in…
This is the latest painting to come off my easel. I added some finishing touches to it today and scanned it this evening. The painting is of Molly the lovely chihuahua. It is 20 x 25 cm in size and painted with acrylics on stretched canvas. I really loved the…

I finished working on Eddie’s portrait just yesterday and I scanned it today. It worked out very well I think. Eddie is just beautiful in the reference photo and I really wanted to capture his expression in the painting. I worked most of the detail into the head and shoulders,…
I have completed this portrait a few weeks ago. It is of a lovely boxer called Alfie and his owner Jacqueline. It was commissioned as a wedding present for Jacqueline to remind her of Alfie, who sadly passed away. He was a very important part in her life and her…

I finished this portrait last weekend. It is of a lovely chocolate labrador called Bobby. The painting was 30 x 40 cm in size and it was painted with acrylics on canvas, as usual. I used two reference photographs, one for Bobby’s pose and one for the background. The background…
This is the last portrait I completed in 2015. It is of a lovely rough collie called Jess. The drawing is 15 x 20 cm in size, the smallest portrait size I work in. It was drawn with coloured pencils on Fabriano paper. This portrait was given as a Christmas gift to…
This is another Christmas commission I have completed in December. It is of Ripley, the beautiful golden labrador retriever. The painting was painted with acrylics on canvas 40 x 40 cm in size and it was given as a Christmas present to the client’s wife. She was very happy with…
I wish you all a very Happy New Year 2016. I would also like to thank everybody who is following my blog, and who has commissioned a portrait with True Image Fine Art. I haven’t been blogging my latest Christmas portraits, so here is the first one. It is of a…
