I work from my studio in Kilcock. It is a small room with shelves all around to put my finished and unfinished work onto. I like to give each work a few days to 'rest' before I completely finalise them and email my clients their portrait scans. On this page, you will find more information on how I work together with some progress photos and videos of my process. I discuss the materials I use and how I go about completing each piece of work. Because I work from photographs, I like to share them here too for comparison. You can subscribe to the blog and receive updates 3 to 4 times a month.
I created two portraits of Simba a few weeks ago. Her owners lost her a few months ago due to old age and they miss her so much. They wanted to have some unique artworks of her in their sitting room to keep their memories fresh. One was a painting…
This is a painting commissioned for Charlie Bird for his work on fundraising for Pieta House. He recently opened one of their new centres in north Dublin and on the occassion was gifted my portrait of him with his beloved cockapoo dog Tiger. The painting was commissioned by Legacy Communications…
I was contacted by the ISPCA (Irish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) a few months ago. They purchased a gift voucher to be used for one of their colleagues retiring. This is not the first time they did, I created a portrait for one of their colleagues previously.…
This commission was a compilation of photographs and ideas that a client contacted me with a couple of months ago. His idea was for me to create a portrait of his two dogs, beautiful basset hounds, with a cherry blossom tree in the background. He also wanted some butterflies in…
Winston’s portrait was commissioned with a gift voucher a few weeks ago. The voucher was purchased as a Christmas present for the client’s brother. I was delighted to receive the lovely photos of Winston to work from. He is just beautiful, the colour of his fur just sang out and…
Earlier this year (2022) I worked on a painting of Killiney Bay in south county Dublin. It featured Toby, a very cute family pet dog, and was commissioned as a keepsake for his owners. Toby sadly passed away last year. Killiney Bay was his favourite place to go for a…
I have recently worked on two very small drawings. They were each just 20 x 15 cm in size which is the smallest size I work in. I used graphite pencils by Staedtler and Faber-Castell all with some charcoal content to reduce the shine. I truly enjoy working with these…
This is a painting of Lily, the cute tan corgi cross dog. She is lying on a stairs landing in her owners house. The painting was commissioned from a client in the UK, but it was gifted to a lady in Dublin. I worked on her portrait this time last…
I worked on Killian’s portrait last year. It was commissioned as a present from his fiancee. He just loves his dogs, one of whom passed away last year. My client Lauren wanted me to capture all three dogs with Killian in one photo. She didn’t have a reference of all…
I painted Tyson, the beautiful rottweiler dog last autumn. It was commissioned as a gift for the client’s friend. Tyson sadly passed away before I painted her, unusual name for a female dog. She looked so beautiful and regal in her photo, it was such a pleasure to paint her…
