I was commissioned to create this drawing in January. It is of a young lady called Aoife sitting with her beloved pet french bulldog Cole. Cole was her best friend and accompanied her everywhere. The portrait was commissioned by Aoife’s mother as a keepsake for herself to keep Aoife’s memory in an art form around her house. Aoife sadly passed away a little more than a year ago and is sorely missed by her family. I was honoured to be asked to draw her in her prime sitting with her best pet friend.
The drawing is 40 x 30 cm in size drawn with graphite pencils. The drawing was based on multiple photographs of both Aoife and Cole. The client, Alice, wanted me to capture a certain way Aoife smiled and looked during her best years. Many photos of her were with her holding a glass, so I adjusted her hand to hold her dog instead. I moved it down and used a clear photo of Cole to make him look as if sitting in her lap.
Once my client was happy with the composition, she decided to go ahead with the commission. I was very excited about this project as it meant a lot to the client and her family.
I received a lovely email from Alice when she received the final scanned image of the drawing. She was very happy with it:
Hi Ivana!
It’s perfect. I love it. Thank you so much….I will treasure the drawing for ever.

My client was very happy with the drawing when I was finished. Her son collected the mounted drawing. I used a neutral coloured mount to compliment the photo which could then be brought straight to the framers for framing.
