This is a small sized pencil portrait I drew a few months ago. It features twin sister Caoilainn and her brother Fiach – real Irish names as my client put it. They were born during the pandemic years in May 2020 in the UK and were being christenened only a few months ago in Ireland where they now live. They couldn’t travel before due to the lockdowns and my client, their aunt, didn’t meet them until they were pass their baby years. She wanted to give their parents something very special as their christening gift.
She decided to contact me with some photographs to recreate in a form of a portrait drawing. I worked at a small size of 20 x 25 cm. I used Staedtler mars lumograph black pencils and started with a precise line sketch of the two children. They are so engrosed in what they are doing and it is always lovely to capture people in motion rather than conscious of the camera. They are here excited about a birthday cake! I wanted to capture this lovely moment on paper.
I had one photograph to work from and another for reference. I cropped the original image a little and removed some elements and clutter from the background to create a focus on the twins.
The client was very happy with the resulting sketch and was very excited about gifting it to the twins’ parents on the day of the christening. She was a little delayed with ordering and I only had a few weeks to create this, but thankfully I had the opportunity to move a few projects and I had the drawing ready for the day of the christnening in March.
Morning Ivana
Absolutely gorgeous.. thank you so much. Think you managed to capture them perfectly!! Again appreciate your fast turnaround on this.. they and their parents will love it…
Thank you.. I will be back to you again if that’s ok! Loved working with you and appreciate all your help with this project. Also delighted too that I will have it for the day.. it means so much.
Thanks again!
Catriona, upon receiving the scanned image and the actual drawing of her twin niece and nephew, Carrigaline, Cork, Ireland
I took a few photos of the drawing to show the scale of it in comparison with my hand and the pencils.
