I only finished on this landscape painting last week. It is of a beautiful farm in Dromcollogher in county Limerick Ireland and belongs to a lovely family. My client’s father who ran the farm for many years has retired this year and his children decided to gift him with an acrylic painting of his beloved workplace. It is a special gift that can bring back fond memories of the days, weeks and years spent tending to his dairy herd and walking his lands. The milking parlour and farm outbuildings are pictures in the far distance while the herd of cows dominates the foreground. Jennifer, my client, wanted me to capture the stream on the farm. It is not visible in the photos, but I inserted it based on some other references Jennifer provided me with.
The photo itself is set during sunset. The pinks and blues of the sky play well against the greens of the grasslands and hedges. The clouds bring some interesting shapes into the painting together with some drama.
The canvas is medium in size at 45 x 35 cm. I painted on a slightly different surface in the form of a medium grain canvas. For very detailed work I use a fine grained canvas. The canvas is stretched on wooden stretcher bars and can hang on the wall unframed. I always give my clients an option for framing and many times they decide to leave their paintings unframed. I can organise a frame from my framers too.
I worked in professional grade acrylic paints by Winsor and Newton and Old Holland. For the greens, I worked in warm shades. For the sky I used some cool Cerulean Blues and Alizarin Crimson to push it backwards. The client was very happy with the resulting painting and sent me an email in response to seeing the scanned image:
Hi Ivana! It is absolutely beautiful and can’t wait to give it to my dad, he will love it! … Oh my goodness it is absolutely incredible!! It was even better than I imagined it could be! Thank you so much, it is such an accurate painting of the landscape and includes every aspect that I asked for so incredibly well. Honestly I could not be more pleased with it or more grateful for your incredible work! You are so so talented. Thank you so much!!

I took some photographs of the painting when finished. I hung it on the wall in my house to show how it would look unframed:
