The studio has been so busy lately I have not found the time to post updates on new artwork. Well, here is the latest one I am working on: an acrylic painting of a lovely german shepherd called Zeus. He really is gorgeous and I am enjoying the painting process so much I simply had to post it here. Below are the first two steps of the painting progress. I started by putting down the basic shapes with raw umber. The second step then was to add colour and start the, as I call it, ‘sculpting’. I am using a black mixed from raw umber and ultramarine, burnt sienna and yellow ochre for the tan fur, and burnt umber for Zeus’s lovely eyes.
In the next step, I will work on the background. I usually build on the background from the start of the painting process, but I got so engrossed in the painting of Zeus, I left it out for now. More updates of the painting will follow over the next few days.
