I work from my studio in Kilcock. It is a small room with shelves all around to put my finished and unfinished work onto. I like to give each work a few days to 'rest' before I completely finalise them and email my clients their portrait scans. On this page, you will find more information on how I work together with some progress photos and videos of my process. I discuss the materials I use and how I go about completing each piece of work. Because I work from photographs, I like to share them here too for comparison. You can subscribe to the blog and receive updates 3 to 4 times a month.
This is one of the many Christmas commissions this year. It is of two cavachons called Isa and Darcy. The painting is 50 x 60 cm in size and painted with acrylics on stretched canvas. I had lovely reference photos to work from for this one. It makes all the…
I have completed this portrait a week ago. It is painted on two square canvases, each 25 x 25 cm in size. I worked on them both at the same time so they can be hung together. It was a surprise birthday gift so I waited a little with the blog…
I received this photograph from a client I recently drew a portrait for. Holly is the beagle sitting beside the portrait. It is lovely to see Holly beside her image in the drawing. I am including some photographs of the mounted drawing.
This is a lovely wedding drawing of two sisters and brother. It was commissioned as a present for their parents. The reference picture I worked from worked very well (photograph is by Tara Aherne). I removed some detail from the background and made it a little lighter. It was a lovely…
I finished working on this portrait yesterday and I scanned it today. It was a large one and I worked on it on and off for three weeks. The drawings take a while to take shape I find, but when they come together they are worth the hard work. I…

I recently worked on this lovely painting of Sam, a lovely collie dog with a backdrop of the Donegal mountains. The portrait was commissioned as a Christmas present for the client’s partner and Sam’s owner. Sam is no longer with us and I wanted to capture his lovely nature in…
This is the latest painting to come off my easel. I added some finishing touches to it today and scanned it this evening. The painting is of Molly the lovely chihuahua. It is 20 x 25 cm in size and painted with acrylics on stretched canvas. I really loved the…
I completed this portrait a few weeks ago and never got a chance to upload it here on the blog. The client – the bride pictured in the portrait – was very happy with the result. The drawing was a standard A4 size (20 x 30 cm). I worked with…
This is a brand new drawing to come off my easel. It is of two golden labradors called Zuva and Pip. The portrait was commissioned as a gift for their owner. Zuva is the older dog lying down and is very special for the owner. The reference photo had some…
