Art Studio Updates

I work from my studio in Kilcock. It is a small room with shelves all around to put my finished and unfinished work onto. I like to give each work a few days to 'rest' before I completely finalise them and email my clients their portrait scans. On this page, you will find more information on how I work together with some progress photos and videos of my process. I discuss the materials I use and how I go about completing each piece of work. Because I work from photographs, I like to share them here too for comparison. You can subscribe to the blog and receive updates 3 to 4 times a month.

Bride portrait final scan

Today I have finished working on the bride portrait. I scanned it then in the afternoon, which took a while since it is a larger painting. I had to scan it in six pieces and put together on Photoshop. I think I have to get a bigger scanner, life is…

Bride portrait in progress

I have made more progress on the bride portrait I am currently working on. Firstly, I put down an under painting over the skin areas. I used a mixture of raw umber and white which will work great as a base for adding skin tones at a later stage. Today,…

Bride portrait in progress

Springer Spaniel Portrait in Pencil

I finished working on Baxter’s portrait last night and after some tweeking this morning, I scanned it. It is looking really well I think and I hope you will like it too. It was lovely to work on a square format, I think Baxter’s position in this portrait really suits…

Large Family Portrait in Pencil

I have now finished work on this large family portrait. I think it worked out pretty well and I tried my best matching the scan to the original. I scanned it in a few pieces and joined on my laptop, so some of the shading might look darker or paler…

Rottweiler Portrait in Acrylic

I have finally finished working on Robin’s portrait today. I have scanned it straight away and you can see the result below. I am very pleased with it and I really enjoyed working on it. Besides the scan I am including some photographs of the canvas as I find it…

Rottweiler Portrait in Progress

I have returned to working on Robin’s portrait today. Robin is a lovely rottweiler and I am painting her portrait with acrylics on stretched canvas. The size of canvas is 30 x 40 cm (12 x 16 inch). Today, I have added another thin wash over the entire portrait to…

Family Portrait in Pencil

This is a family portrait I have been working on for the last few days. I have postponed work on Robin for a moment as this is a Birthday present for next week. I will resume working on Robin’s portrait straight away. The family portrait is  30 x 20 cm…
