Art Studio Updates

I work from my studio in Kilcock. It is a small room with shelves all around to put my finished and unfinished work onto. I like to give each work a few days to 'rest' before I completely finalise them and email my clients their portrait scans. On this page, you will find more information on how I work together with some progress photos and videos of my process. I discuss the materials I use and how I go about completing each piece of work. Because I work from photographs, I like to share them here too for comparison. You can subscribe to the blog and receive updates 3 to 4 times a month.

work in progress on a portrait painting of a child

Eloise

Commissioned in January, I completed a vibrant portrait of Eloise, against dark red dahlias, for her father Henry—who previously commissioned a piece featuring his dog. Celebrating Valentine's Day, I captured Eloise and her joyous expression and contrasting colors for her mother as a gift. The 50x40 cm painting was impactful in its size. My approach harmonized background and skin tones to enhance the piece's emotion.

Footballer Aidan McCann

Commissioned for a client county Monaghan, this painting depicts Aidan McCann's goal celebration during the 2015 Louth County Football Championship. Based on Seb Daly's photo, the artist removed an additional player and captured the moment on a challenging 30x30 cm canvas. Employing a vibrant palette, including Cadmium and Cerulean hues, the client was very happy with the finished painting.
