Golden Labrador Portrait – step 1

Posted on December 19, 2013

With the secret commission finished (images coming after Christmas :)), I am now working on a portrait of the most gorgeous golden labrador called ‘Goldie’. Her portrait is going to be a Christmas present for her owner. The portrait is painted with acrylics on stretched canvas and is 30 x 30 cm in size. I…

Yorkshire Terrier Portrait

Posted on December 13, 2013

I have now finished working on Max’s portrait. It was really enjoyable, as Max the yorkshire terrier is so cute in the reference photograph. I just love the way he is running towards the camera all happy and bouncy. I have detailed his fur based on other reference photograph I got from the client and…

I have progressed on Max’s portrait and below is a photograph of what the painting is looking like now. I have put down some basic colours throughout the canvas which will give a great base for detailed work. I have not used white yet and I will start putting in highlights in the next step,…

This is the second step of Joey’s portrait. Joey is a beautiful golden labrador and his portrait is going to be a Christmas gift for his owners. I have worked on the detail in his face, especially eyes and nose. There is a bit more to do there to level out the shadows and light…

This is a new portrait I have started working on this week. The portrait is of a golden labrador called Joey and is going to be drawn with graphite pencils on Fabriano 5 paper. I am using graphite pencils made by Staedtler and Daler-Rowney. The portrait is going to be 10 x 10 inches in…

Basset Hounds Portrait

Posted on November 8, 2013

This is the final scan of the finished drawing of Jasmine and Daisy – the very cute basset hounds. I really enjoyed working on their dog portrait. Their eyes are so expressive and their expressions so individualistic. You can really tell their personality just by looking at them. The client is gifting this portrait to…

Posted on November 4, 2013

Below is another progress photo of the basset hounds portrait I have been working on. I have detailed Daisy’s face and ears and in the last step I will work on the rest of her body and paws.

I have progressed on Jasmine’s and Daisy’s portrait in the last few days. Jasmine’s portrait is more less finished now and I will move on to finish off Daisy. When Daisy’s portrait is completed, I will evaluate the entire drawing and make changes if necessary. I have been very busy lately, so I am unable…
