This painting was commissioned as a retirement gift to a professor by his colleagues. The streetscape is of the Museum Building on the Trinity College campus in the Dublin City Centre. The painting is 30 x 40 cm in size and painted with acrylics on stretched canvas. I revised the reference photograph slightly, removing some roadworks, fences and cars. The photo was taken in winter and the trees were redundant of leaves. I decided to change this to a more spring/summer setting with greenery which worked very well with the otherwise grey scene. There was a lot of detail in the building itself, especially the numerous tall windows. I kept some cars and people in the picture to retain the life in the scene.
The client was thrilled with the result and decided to commission another painting, this time of his wife at her graduation ceremony. I am working on that portrait now and I will have it up on the blog soon.
Dear Ivana. Thanks very much for this. It arrived today and is really a beautiful painting in my view. Its recipient will be very pleased. Thanks again.
