This is a painting of a lovely sheltie called Roxy. Roxy belongs to a young girl who is soon celebrating her 15th birthday. Roxy’s portrait was commissioned for her as a birthday present by her parents. Unfortunately Roxy has cancer and is not expected to live much longer. The painting is 25 x 30 cm in size and painted with acrylics on stretched canvas. I started with an initial sketch in yellow ochre before colour blocking the entire painting, then adding detail until the painting was finished. The client was very happy with the finished painting and wrote me a lovely email. I hope his daughter will like it too 🙂
Hi Ivana, That’s beautiful, it really captures her, my daughter will be delighted, you’re very talented, great job…everyone loves your picture…

As usual, I took photographs when painting and I am including them below. I tried to include my hand and paintbrush where I could to give some reference in relation to the size of the painting. I paint on fine grain canvas to maximise the detail I can put into each portrait. The canvas is thin edged at 18mm depth, Italian made by Belle Arti.
