The painting of Hank was commissioned as a birthday gift for his owner, the client’s boyfriend. The painting is 30 x 40 cm in size and painted with acrylics on stretched canvas. The birthday is in September. I had some very detailed photographs to work from. We chose to work with a full body photo of Hank standing on a wall. The client preferred a green background with a ‘happy face’ of Hank. We combined two photos for this and I added some blurred greenery to the background. The green worked very well with the browns and blacks in Hank’s fur. I used some bright greens to inject some life to the painting.
The client was keen to see a photograph of the painting in progress, so I emailed her with it once I had all the colour blocking done:
I worked with a medium grain canvas, which added a lovely texture to the painting. The client was delighted with the finished painting. I am keeping it in my studio until closer to the birthday. Below are the reference photos:
