This is a square pencil drawing of a bride and groom at their wedding day. The portrait was commissioned as a one year anniversary gift from the groom to the bride in the photo. He wanted to mark their first wedding anniversary with a unique gift. It was on December the 31st, so a special day too.
I worked with graphite pencils on paper in a square size of 30 x 30 cm. The client wanted to capture himself and his bride head and up to the waist, so I cropped the photo to suit this. A square format was best and I also removed the background according to the client’s wishes. I used black graphite pencils which I have been very fond of recently. They are mixed with a small bit of charcoal which means they can achieve a lovely darkness that graphite on its own just cannot do.
I took some photos of the finished drawing. Unfortunately, the light was not great back in December, so they are a little dark. The scan shows the drawing in a better light.
