This is a small drawing of two donkeys called Mouse and Gruffalo. I drew this portrait earlier in July as a birthday gift for their owner, my client’s mother. She commissioned a number of drawings before, including a speedboat montage drawing for ther husband’s birthday, a pencil drawing of a lovely springer spaniel dog Polly for her friend, a large drawing of her own three wheaten terrier dogs, a small dog drawing travelling to Canada and a pencil drawing of HMS Seahorse at the races among others.

Mouse and Gruffalo, two donkeys, graphite pencil on paper, 15 x 20 cm

This drawing is 15 x 20 cm in size drawn with graphite pencil on paper. I mounted the drawing in a neutral coloured mount before posting to the client in time for her mother’s birthday in the middle of July.

The client was delighted with the finished drawing:

Hi Ivana! Superb as usual. Thank you…Thanks for doing that so promptly…Arrived and delighted.

I had a couple of reference photographs to work from. I combined them into one composition for the portrait. Both donkeys were facing the same way and the photos were quite easy to stitch together seamlessly.

Adding final detail to the pencil drawing of two donkeys

I worked in detail with sharpened graphite pencils. The drawing was quite small, so it was quite challenging capturing all the detail necessary, but having completed the drawing successfully, the client was very satisfied with the result.
