This is another wedding portrait I created a few weeks ago. It was commissioned as a wedding gift for the couple in the portrait by their friends. The painting is 40 x 30 cm in size painted with acrylics on medium grain canvas. My clients emailed me one photograph to work from. It was taken in a dark interior setting which made the white of the wedding dress just pop. The brightness of the fairy lights in the background create some more interest in the portrait too.

The client was delighted with the finished painting and decided to have it framed too. I got a limed wood frame in a simple profile to enhance the simplicity of the painting.

Hi Ivana! We are thrilled, it looks beautiful! I can’t wait to see the couple’s reaction when we give it to them!

To add some texture to the painting, I used a medium grain professional textured canvas. I usually opt for a fine grain, especially when working on very detailed artwork, but this one was a little larger and simpler. The texture worked quite well at the end I felt and really gave the portrait some extra depth. I applied two coats of satin UV varnish to the finished painting which made the colours sing and added a subtle sheen to the surface of the canvas.

I started with a line sketch in yellow ochre before moving onto colour blocking the entire painting and finishing off with some fine detail. I detailed only the main areas of the couple’s faces, hair and sections of their clothes.
