Rottweiler Portrait in Progress

This is a new dog portrait I have started working on yesterday. It is of a beautiful rottweiler called Robin who has sadly passed away after her battle with cancer. She was only six years old. The client has commissioned her portrait as a present for his wife, Robin’s owner. I’m sure Robin is missed terribly. The client has provided me with lots of good quality photographs so I can really capture Robin’s personality in the painting.

The portrait is a medium size of 30 x 40 cm (12 x 16 inches) and I am painting it with acrylic paints on stretched canvas. I have completed the first stage of the portrait which consists of a one colour sketch to establish the likeness and the basic shapes in the image. I will carry on adding washes of colour next together with the background.
