I work from my studio in Kilcock. It is a small room with shelves all around to put my finished and unfinished work onto. I like to give each work a few days to 'rest' before I completely finalise them and email my clients their portrait scans. On this page, you will find more information on how I work together with some progress photos and videos of my process. I discuss the materials I use and how I go about completing each piece of work. Because I work from photographs, I like to share them here too for comparison. You can subscribe to the blog and receive updates 3 to 4 times a month.
I have been asked a number of times to create drawings and paintings of houses, buildings and landscapes. I even painted a construction site! I always welcome the challenge and enjoy working on urban landscapes sometimes to break the routine of portraits only. I decided to put together a few…
This is a pencil drawing of Jamie, a 13 year old boy, pictured in the portrait ringing a bell in the hospital where he successfully completed his cancer treatment. The drawing was commissioned back in June this year as a gift for Jamie and his parents. My clients wanted to…
This painting is quite small at 20 x 20 cm. I worked on a few small paintings this summer and I must say I really enjoyed every minute and detail. I got really consumed and sucked in by the images and the painting process. This painting was commissioned by three…

I worked on this drawing back in July this year. It is a family portrait drawing of parents and their two children. Their children live in Australia and they don’t have a clear photograph of all four of them together. I worked from many different photos to create one composition.…
This beautiful mare is called Katie’s Pet and sadly passed earlier this year. Her owners were very upset. Caroline, my client, contacted me on behalf of her family, with this lovely photograph and wanted it recreated into a painting. Her father is in the image leading Katie’s Pet. The painting…
I finished on this drawing only a couple of weeks ago. It was such a lovely commission to work on, so unusual having the main characters lying down. The two sisters are so cute in the photo, holding hands and sharing a beautiful moment. It was commissioned by their aunt…
This drawing is based on a vintage wedding album full of interesting images taken on the day of the couple’s wedding. The portrait was a very special gift for the couple’s daughter. Her husband Frank contacted me and visited my studio with a hard copy of the album. We looked…
I was contacted by the ISPCA (Irish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) a few months ago. They purchased a gift voucher to be used for one of their colleagues retiring. This is not the first time they did, I created a portrait for one of their colleagues previously.…
I painted this painting a couple of months ago. It was commissioned by the lady’s friend as a gift for her 40th birthday. I had one photographic reference for the painting. The client was not sure where the photo was taken but we both agreed it must be somewhere in…
