Website Update

Posted on April 29, 2013April 29, 2013

Since finishing work on Alfred’s portrait, I have been updating the website with all the recently worked on portraits. I have created new pages for each one of the six new artworks and included them on my gallery page. The new artworks include two pencil family portraits, a lovely pencil portrait of ‘Baxter’ the lively…

‘Alfred’ – Dalmatian Dog Portrait in Acrylic – Final Scan

Posted on April 24, 2013

Today I have finished work on Alfred’s portrait. I spent the last three days working on the details and finishing off the landscape. I think it worked out quite well and I hope the clients will like it too. The finished portrait is on stretched canvas, sides are painted and it is 50 x 40…

Posted on April 19, 2013April 19, 2013

This is the stage I am at with Alfred’s portrait. I have painted in all details for the distant scenery including mountains and sky, and I have started detailing Alfred. In the next stage I will mostly work on Alfred and his immediate surroundings.

Dalmatian Portrait in Progress

Posted on April 17, 2013April 17, 2013

This is the next step of Alfred’s pet portrait. Today, I have started blocking in basic colours for the background and added some more detailed shading to Alfred’s head and body. Up to this stage, no white has been added into the portrait. I like to start with pure pigment first as I find that…

Dalmatian Portrait in Progress

Posted on April 16, 2013April 16, 2013

I started working on Alfred’s portrait today. Alfred was a beautiful dalmatian that sadly passed away recently. His owners wanted a pet portrait of him in his favourite walking spot in county Wicklow, so there is going to be a lovely landscape background in this painting. The client also asked me to remove Alfred’s collar…

Bride portrait final scan

Posted on April 12, 2013

Today I have finished working on the bride portrait. I scanned it then in the afternoon, which took a while since it is a larger painting. I had to scan it in six pieces and put together on Photoshop. I think I have to get a bigger scanner, life is too short for A4 :-)….

Bride portrait in progress – step 4

Posted on April 10, 2013

This is the next stage of the bride portrait I have been working on. I have added some detail on the bride and dress. There is lots more detail to go on and I will be finishing the painting tomorrow.

Bride portrait in progress

Posted on April 9, 2013

I have made more progress on the bride portrait I am currently working on. Firstly, I put down an under painting over the skin areas. I used a mixture of raw umber and white which will work great as a base for adding skin tones at a later stage. Today, I spent most of the…

Bride portrait in progress

Posted on April 8, 2013

This is a new portrait I have started working on on Friday. I have put down the sketch in the first step. The next step will be to start putting down under-painting for skin tones together with shading the background. The portrait is 40 x 50cm in size and I am painting with acrylics on…

Springer Spaniel Portrait in Pencil

Posted on April 5, 2013April 5, 2013

I finished working on Baxter’s portrait last night and after some tweeking this morning, I scanned it. It is looking really well I think and I hope you will like it too. It was lovely to work on a square format, I think Baxter’s position in this portrait really suits it. I used pencils of…
