I have decided to post some photographs I have taken in the last couple of months, of finished portraits completed throughout December and January so far.
Thank you for reading and don’t forget you are welcome to leave a comment on this or any of my open posts. All works on paper (graphite pencil and tinted pencil drawings) are mounted in a conservation grade mount before posting. I use a ‘soft white’ colour of mount because it is neutral and will go with any type of frame and match any home decor. It also works really well with the paper I use which is slightly off-white – Fabriano with a lovely texture. The mount is really smooth and works well with the fine grain in the paper. It also gives a lovely backdrop to the graphite pencil strokes on the paper.
The image above is a portrait of a fox terrier I worked on in December. I thought it looked particularly well in the mount, probably because it is a tinted pencil drawing which worked so well with the soft white mount. I have taken a close-up picture of the mount and paper together which shows the textures of both.
All mounted pet and family portrait drawings are wrapped in a protective plastic cover before wrapping and the drawing itself is sprayed with a fixative to minimise smudging and fading so that you can enjoy your portrait for many years to come.
All acrylic paintings are painted on professionally stretched canvas which is pre-primed. But I always make sure to give it another coat of a primer and sand it well for a smooth finish. The photographs show the canvas edges which I paint to match the overall colour of the portrait. Canvases do not have to be framed and can be hung as they are, alternatively they can be framed without glass (or with non-reflective glass to avoid glare).
